Six-Figure Pre-Series A funding raised by Egyptian Esports platform GBarena
The Cairo-based company has received acclaim not just for its data-driven advertising approach, but also for cultivating a robust online gaming community.
GBarena, a Cairo-based esports platform, has completed a six-figure Pre-Series A round headed by angel investors Ahmed Aboudoma, Kushal Shah, and HIM Angels.
The platform that allows users to organise and compete in tournaments through an automated procedure, was founded in 2016 by Samer Wagdy, Mustafa Zaza, and Bishoy Mesdary. In just five years, it has grown a robust online community while also developing a data-driven advertising model that allows advertisers to target consumers based on behaviour as well as demographics.
While esports has been growing in popularity throughout the world over the past decade, players from the Middle East have just recently appeared, albeit some have had surprising success. Jawaker, an Amman-based gaming studio, raised $205 million earlier this year, and Rawa.TV, a Lebanon-based game streaming network, was acquired by Medal.TV, a US-based company.
